Alice Raatz - Birthday, October 2008

We had a great time celebrating mom's birthday. LuAnn setup the party in their new shop and secretly invited friends and relatives. It was wonderful to see everyone and I hope you enjoy looking at the photos below.

Vacation to Sacramento, San Francisco & Denver

August 23rd through September 2nd, 2008, Kate and I spent our first vacation alone since our honeymoon in 1988. We drove to Denver, CO and then boarded a plane to Sacramento, CA. In Sacramento, we stayed with my brother Randy and his wife Laurie. We spent a couple days in San Francisco, then Napa Valley, then we all went to Lake Tahoe to do some sailing. After 5 days in CA, we flew back to Denver and the drove to Ft Collins CO for Troy Rodningen's wedding. After a couple days there, we drove back to Denver to say a night with friends from college Todd and Cindy Bjornson and their three kids.

Then we stuck out and drove north through Wyoming and then east through South Dakota. We didn't stop and spend too much time in these states, but we were surely impressed with the Black Hills and would like to journey back there.

We had a great time and want to thank everyone for being such great hosts and tour guides (thanks Randy). Look below to see a slide show of our trip!

Nathan Raatz Graduation!

The time finally came where Nathan graduated from Buffalo High School. It seems to me that when you are in the moment of starting your kids in school and they progress through the early years of their education, that goes slowly and somewhat endlessly. But as time goes on and they get into their high school years, the time flys by very fast and I have to stop and consider the experiences of our years.

Nathan is done with the first leg of his journey and now needs to decide what his next step is. He is closing in on his nineteenth year and the next choices he makes are his. As my brother Dale said to me about giving advice to his children, "I'm not going to tell you what to do, I'm only going to tell you what I know." This is sound advice and I feel that is all Kate and I can do.

The graduation ceremony was produced very well and basically went off without any issues. That evening, Nathan attended an all night graduation party at the high school and the next day (with a few hours of sleep) we had a open house party at our home in Buffalo. We had around 35 guests mostly consisting of family members from both sides of our family. Click here for a few pictures of the event.

Buffalo High School - Up All Night 2008 Promo Video

I was asked to put together a promotional video for the upcoming after graduation party called Up All Night 2008. The video is a collage of old footage from 2005's party along with some current seniors being asked what they are doing to do after graduation. Check it out!

Almost Valentines Day

Hello!

Wow, time has certainly flown since Christmas! Mainly I've been busy at my job with Capella University. We are implementing a large enterprise wide computer software system and it is 3 years in the making. As of the middle of January we have successfully put in the majority of all the compents. I have only been part of the last year or so of the rollout as I was primarily focus on keeping our older systems working as we transitioned away from them.

Life at the Raatz residence is moving along quite well. Ian is getting very good at driving and we will be doing some freeway driving soon. It can certainly be scarey, but worth it in the long run. By the way, the best thing to do is purchase "Student Driver" door magnets to put on the car when you are driving! The other cars stay far away and are much more patient. Check out the link to see where you can purchase your own!

Nathan is working at Walmart here in Buffalo and he is been planning life after Buffalo High. He doesn't seem to be in any big hurry and I suppose that is okay. Life goes fast enough, so no harm in making sure you want to do things right.

Kate is stage managing another Buffalo Community Theater production. It is I Do I Do and it is a musical. Check it out at the link provided.

Keep in touch and give us a call sometime!
